What is Tenuate?
TENUATE (diethylpropion HCl) is used as an appetite suppressant. It should be used in conjunction with an overall diet plan to reduce weight. Tenuate is an Amphetamine like diet drug.
How does Tenuate work?
Tenuate works by stimulating a gland, called the hypothalamus, and affecting certain neurotransmitters to decrease appetite. Because Tenuate is similar chemically to amphetamines, it has the potential for psychological dependency; it should be used with caution
Are there any side effects?
Side effects, that may go away during treatment, include restlessness, nervousness, difficulty sleeping, or dry mouth.
How should I take Tenuate?
Follow the directions for using Tenuate provided by your online doctor. Take this medicine about 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals. Take your last dose of the day at least 4 to 6 hours before bedtime.
Are there other drugs that I should not take Tenuate with?
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine. Use of this medicine is not recommended if you have a history of heart disease, high blood pressure, hyperthyroidism, glaucoma, atherosclerosis, or brain or spinal cord disorders. Inform your doctor or pharmacist of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. Do not use this medicine if you are also taking guanadrel, guanethidine, furazolidone, or monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.
Should Tenuate be taken while breast feeding?
This medicine is excreted in breast milk. If you currently breast-feeding or plan to while on this medication, you will need to check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
